Amongst Men moves to Theatre Royal

The Four Rivers Theatre crew make the short hop from Wexford to Waterford where, on this coming Wednesday and Thursday, the Theatre Royal hosts Amongst Men. Eoghan Rua Finn’s new play, directed by Deirdre Dwyer, has been receiving rave reviews since opening in Wexford last week.

“The big question Eoghan Rua Finn’s gripping play pointedly asks is ‘when does any war end? Indeed, does it ever truly end?’ … Finn’s dialogue demands your attention through every word and gesture, and Deirdre Dwyer’s taut direction deserves equal credit on that front. Wexford Arts Centre gave it a much-deserved standing ovation.” (Jackie Hayden, formerly Hot Press)
The year is 1969 and Seán Walsh, a primary school teacher, plans to commemorate the Irish revolutionary period as it occurred in Wexford with his sixth class pupils. His mother was a Cumann na mBan member and has first-hand knowledge of life before, during and after the War of Independence, knowledge, however, that she prefers to remain secret.
After tragedy strikes, Seán turns to uncovering his mother’s secrets, a mission which puts him in conflict with local political and religious leaders, threatening his job, identity and life.
